Libya discredited press stories on an alleged conspiracy by tribal chiefs, and called piracy the funding of armed rebels with the government´s frozen funds; while NATO planes continued bombing the country Friday.
Libyan authorities reacted with indignation to press reports that some 2,000 leaders of the Berber and Bedouin tribes met Thursday to plot against Muammar Gaddafi.
A government spokesman told press it was a meeting to express loyalty and support for Gaddafi, but rebel sources denied it, and said it was all a big con.
Meanwhile, Libyan Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Kaim denounced in a press conference that using frozen assets is like maritime piracy, because the rebels are neither a legal organization nor a country.
During the meeting yesterday in Rome, the 22 member countries of the so called Libya Contact Group agreed to unfreeze at least 30 billion USD of the 165 billions frozen and give them to the opposition National Transition Council.
In the meantime, different sources said NATO air raids have intensified against the capital, Misratah, and Sirte, Gaddafi's hometown.
